CDN Selector

The CDN Selector allows third-party streaming services to be selected. The content type, geographic location, or both are used to determine which third-party streaming service will be selected. The Service Router uses information from the CDN Selector file in order to determine which third party streaming service will be used for the client’s request.

Multi CDN with Third Party Providers

A third-party provider can bundle multiple CDNs to help you set up multi-CDN. These providers act as CDN brokers. Instead of sending traffic to a specific CDN, send traffic to multi-CDN providers. Their platform will route traffic among the CDNs they manage on your behalf. Multi-CDN providers route traffic using criteria that may vary between providers but usually include user geography, performance, and cost.

How Does CDN Selector works?

  1. A user requests a domain such as www.example.com. A DNS lookup is then performed.
  2. A CNAME DNS record returns to the resolver, redirecting the subdomain to the multi CDN provider’s domain such as example.multicdn.com
  3. The resolver performs a second DNS lookup in order to locate the subdomain of the multi-CDN provider.
  4. Multi-CDN returns back to the resolver the CNAME for the CDN it selected.
  5. To find the IP address of the CDN provider, the resolver performs a third DNS lookup.
  6. Connect to the CDN, and data transfer begins.

This complex process involves three DNS lookups. It slows down the user’s initial connection to CDN and positions multi CDN as a single point failure.

PROS

  1. Dynamic routing of users to CDNs
  2. Some providers allow users to route their data in a way that is more customized and controlled.
  3. Some providers offer tools that allow you to place your content on multiple CDNs.

CONS

  1. Multiple DNS lookups
  2. One point of failure
  3. Complexity of managing an additional vendor in your stack

Multiple CDN Use with a CDN Selector

Many benefits are being embraced by businesses when using content delivery networks. AirBNB and Netflix started their CDN plans a while back. Since then, they have used multiple CDNs and dual CDNs. They have achieved great heights in terms of revenue and name retention. These companies are household names thanks to their strict CDN plans, which use not only one but two CDNs or multi-CDN arrangements. CDN plans that use multiple CDN architectures or dual CDN might work for you. A CDN selector will also be useful in calibrating CDN plans. You can create CDN plans with a CDN selector that activate dual CDN settings or multi-CDN settings. This will help you reach customers around the world and also provide great customer service. CDN selectors can make a dual CDN setting or multi-CDN setting even more useful.

Assignment of CDN Server

A dual CDN setup or multiple CDN arrangements can be a great way to boost your company’s online performance. A dual CDN setup allows you to assign functions to one CDN such as office productivity and another for website hosting. Multi-CDN arrangements are a better option for your company than dual CDNs. However, a CDN chooser is required in order to make the dual CDN setup work. A CDN selector allows you to make the most of your dual CDN setup and multiple CDNs. It will allow any of your dual CDN functions, regardless of where they are located, to be used. Website visitors as well as remote employees will be able access all CDNs within your multi-CDN or dual CDN structure. The CDN selector will create CDN plans of routing and expedite these CDN plans to maximize efficiency.

load balancing is a key feature of the CDN selector. A dual CDN or multiCDN setup can be attractive for many companies. However, it won’t work well if the CDN plans are not properly managed. A dual CDN setup, for example, allows one CDN to manage office productivity, such as hosting online storage and hosting apps. Website hosting is provided by the other CDN. This other CDN will assist customers by performing origin pulling from your company’s home server. What happens if your website is overloaded with server traffic? Although it would be nice if both CDNs could help to balance traffic, that is not possible. Because in CDN plans that you have implemented, only one CDN can be used for one function. The CDN selector is here to help. CDN selector allows any CDN to function for anything. The CDN selector will activate another CDN to assist with traffic load handling. This means that load balancing can reduce the CDNs’ data processing requirements. Your CDN plans are not augmented and multi-CDN plans offer the best value. You get more bang for your bucks with the CDN selector that activates both simultaneously.

Multi- or dual CDN Reroute

CDN plans with multiple CDNs or dual CDN setups will need a CDN selector to ensure that functions run smoothly. Although it is not required in all CDN plans (or even most), CDN selectors are a necessity. The CDN selector can perform re-routing. Since the CDN chooser will route online users to any CDN, you don’t need to assign specific CDNs to your multiple-CDN or dual CDN structure in order to perform a particular function. CDN plans now support all types of data. This includes office uploads and website hosting for commercial purposes. A CDN selector can make your CDN structure stronger and more functional.
