Sigma Computing Announces New Features That Balance Control And Access, Allowing Anyone To Explore Data In A Safe And Secure Way

In a recent announcement, Sigma Computing, a leader in cloud analytics and business intelligence (A&BI), described new features that will allow teams from across a company to access, share, and collaborate on data-driven projects. Marketers, product managers, salespeople, and customer service representatives will be able to contribute directly to the larger data conversation while ensuring that information technology and database teams retain complete command of their respective data sets’ integrity, security, and integrity of information.

According to Sigma Computing Co-founder and CEO Rob Woollen, “Every organization strives to be data-driven, but we believe that to genuinely be data-driven, employees must be restricted to using pre-built dashboards and reports based on past information.”

“Every employee must have secure, restricted, and real-time access to the information that pertains to their company. A view of your data in an easy-to-understand format lets your staff conduct their analysis using Sigma. We close the enormous gap that exists between the power that data possesses and the teams that require it by enabling your teams to execute in Sigma what would otherwise be difficult queries in any other tool without the need to learn SQL code.”

According to Gartner, “the modern analytics and business intelligence adoption rate is 35 percent in the 2019 analytics and business intelligence Magic Quadrant customer reference survey.” It is Woollen and his team’s goal to see that rate increase, and they are confident that Sigma provides businesses with the controlled freedom to allow people who do not know SQL and do not code the ability to securely, safely, and independently explore data, without the fear of “breaking” it or accidentally deleting anything.

With Sigma’s most recent platform enhancements, users will have access to a user-friendly spreadsheet interface as well as a powerful set of user roles and permissions, which will allow them to control access to critical information at the group and individual levels. To make data exploration an iterative and collaborative activity, team members should be able to build on each other’s work by offering worksheets and dashboards that are dynamic and easy to share. It is possible to reduce the amount of time wasted on duplicate work while simultaneously increasing the likelihood of discoveries being discovered.

The rest of Woollen’s statement goes like this: “A&BI is no longer just a “nice to have,” but rather is a “must-have” for firms that want to succeed in today’s data-driven environment. Increasingly, organizations must be able to make decisions rapidly, and they must base those judgments on data gathered from across their organization.

‘Sigma demolishes the ‘Ivory Tower’ approach toward data that many firms have to deal with in traditional A&BI systems, where a few SQL-savvy data professionals give insights to the rest of the business.’ This type of strategy merely serves to exacerbate bottlenecks and delays that are needless. It will eventually lead to teams downloading data into Excel and performing their analysis, which will result in governance challenges, security breaches, data inaccuracies, and even more entrenched information silos in the organization.

Engage with Data in Exciting and Novel Ways

Sigma’s visual data modeling was initially unveiled in June 2019, along with other new features like its SQL Runner and one-click integration with Snowflake. This feature, which is available in cloud data warehouses, provides a single, collaborative environment for both data analysts and domain experts that is both secure and governed (CDW). Data modeling is the process of defining how data is related, what it signifies, and how it flows cohesively. For business users to be certain that they are using the correct information in the appropriate context, an effective model makes data more approachable and consumable.

Sigma’s modeling feature enables data teams to quickly and simply create centralized data definitions and curate starting points for business leaders and domain experts using a standardized approach. Data analysts and administrators may create datasets in minutes using SQL or Sigma’s user-friendly interface, which eliminates the need for any coding languages on their part. Teams in every corner of the organization, meanwhile, benefit from rapid access to trustworthy data sources and consistent metrics that provide business context to enable them to make faster and more educated decisions.

Making Certain That Data Can Be Trusted

A window into datasets in the past and present is provided by the lineage feature, allowing users to see where the data comes from and who has interacted with it at any particular point in time before it is searched. Identifying the source of any data is critical for establishing trust in the data as well as the downstream visualizations that a business team may use to make real-time decisions.

It is possible to create a system of governance, compliance, and overall data quality by using a graphical representation of upstream and downstream relationships for datasets in the system. Users will be able to grasp data linkages and data genesis on their own. The need of maintaining regulatory and compliance priorities when multiple people and groups within an organization are accessing data, as well as the reliability of the data studied and used, cannot be overstated.

Point-to-Point Communication (P2P)

Point-to-point sharing allows you to share data in worksheets and dashboards by using a Google Drive-like interface to view the information. Working documents, such as spreadsheets and dashboards, must be dynamic and easily shared so that team members can build on each other’s work, reducing the amount of time wasted on duplicating work, expediting the time to insight, and increasing the likelihood that discoveries will be discovered.

To Sigma

Sigma is an analytics platform designed specifically for the cloud. For data-driven organizations, Sigma delivers live access to cloud data warehouses through an easy, spreadsheet-style user interface—empowering data-driven business experts to ask more questions about their data without having to write a single line of programming code.
