Virtual reality is unquestionably a part of our present, and it may also become a significant part of our future. And I’m not just talking about the entertainment industry here; virtual reality has incredible potential in industries like education, travel, commerce, and more, which is why many creators are optimistic about the future.

But, until we see VR in action in our daily lives, let us enjoy its amazing advancements in the entertainment industry. It’s no surprise that the software sector struggles to stay up with new technology and advances every semester. However, with a number of startups supporting VR technology and more developers moving this route, this is a gap that will soon be filled.

For the time being, most VR headsets have a sizable library of games and apps at their disposal, with some devices supporting multiple software platforms. The games and apps designed for phone and tablet users, in my opinion, are the easiest to use because they don’t require a certain type of console or software to work. You simply put it on your phone and listen to it with a comfortable headphone.

Unfortunately, apps and games created for mobile devices are not as sophisticated or detailed as those created for PCs and consoles. In both circumstances, however, you’ll find cool software, and the greatest of them are listed here. Even better, I only included the ones that are free, so you can enjoy them regardless of your financial situation!

BAMF VR: Free Apps & Games for Phones and Tablets

It’s not a particularly graphically appealing environment, but it runs on Android and is available on Google Play. It can also be played with Google Cardboard, so you won’t have to spend more than $20 to have some VR fun!

The programme includes puzzle games as well as the ability to teleport, which is very cool! You can also use other controllers as input methods, and it’s a family-friendly experience, so everyone can participate.

Collect as many crystals as you can and keep solving unique puzzles while exploring fascinating realms in this 360-degree game!

InMind Virtual Reality

With this fascinating Cardboard game, you have the incredible opportunity to literally explore your mind. You begin the game by being reduced, allowing you to explore the world of neurons and neural networks, looking for abnormalities to shoot down. By maintaining the brain you’re navigating in a healthy state, you’re providing a service.

The principles are similar to those seen in runner games, and you have no control over the course you take, but it’s a lot of fun and strangely fulfilling.

VR Zombie Shooter

This amazing zombie game may be exactly the ideal form of relaxation for iPhone users who appreciate a bit of shooting action! While the game used to be paid, you can now get it for free from the App Store and enjoy a good old-fashioned zombie hunt!

Because the game is set in a subway, the scenery isn’t particularly detailed, but the action is captivating. Furthermore, no special controls are required because you may kill your adversaries using only your gaze (quite cool, right?).

Apps & Games for PCs & Consoles for Free

Google Earth Virtual Reality

If you have an Oculus Rift or an HTC Vive headset, Google Earth VR can satiate your need for travel if you can’t leave the house right now. The finest part is that you can go from Tokyo’s captivating streets to the Grand Canyon’s breathtaking scenery in less than a second. There will be no need for long aircraft flights or exhausting luggage dragging.

To be honest, I think I’d prefer this mode of transportation!

Google Earth VR is free on Steam, but it may also be available on other websites.

YouTube Virtual Reality

Google demonstrates (once again) that they are on top of emerging trends by releasing a cooler version of YouTube that caters to VR enthusiasts. You can watch 360-degree videos here and even upload your own!

The best part is that you can watch films from major brands like Discovery, the New York Times, the BBC, Sports Illustrated, and others for free. So, I’d say it’s time to put your headset on and start exploring this hidden gem!

Rec Room

Rec Room is a terrific game/app if you’re seeking for a multiplayer adventure! As the name implies, this is a virtual environment where you can unwind and forget about your daily troubles. This world features a variety of games that you can play with friends or strangers, as well as a relaxing and pleasant setting.

Rec Room is a free-to-play VR game for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift that can be downloaded through Steam. In order to utilize both headsets, you’ll also need a VR-ready gaming PC.

Now, if you don’t have a headset and are still looking for a way to unwind, I recommend checking out Happy Room. It’s based on the same concept as Rec Room, but it’s a little more twisted. You can still play it on any device you want!

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Jackal Assault

COD became famous around the world because of its stories of war and terror, devotion and collaboration, and perhaps some terrible stories of valour and sacrifice. And now you may enjoy the virtual reality experience for free!

However, don’t expect the same game experience you’re used to from PC gaming — this is a condensed version meant to tease and entice. It’s also exclusive to PlayStation VR.

Now, if you want a little more from your shooting experience or don’t have the PSVR equipment, I recommend attempting several sniper games. They’re a lot of fun and can be used on practically any device!

Final Thoughts

As you can see, there are quite a number free apps and games available on the market today. And whether you have an Oculus Rift/HTC Vive or are experimenting with Google Cardboard, there is entertainment tailored to each platform!
